Reminder: Love Yourself & Practice Self Care
Happy Wednesday all! I wasn't sure if I would post today because had one of those mornings where I was just super uninspired by my wardrobe and just feeling BLAH. Okay it actually began last night when I was trying to come up with something to wear to work today. It is still cold out and I need my hair cut and colored, my skin is super dry from the cold as well as breaking out, I haven't been exercising as routinely, etc.; just blah mood! Ever have those days/moments? I have them every now and then and it puts me in the worst mood, which I can't stand. It's terrible.
So last night and into this morning it was starting out to be the type of day for me. Well rather than just throw my hands up, scream and just say F- it (which I usually do) I took a few minutes and decided to just sit there and take a couple deep breaths. I don't usually do this because it is much more fun & easier to just freak out, but one of my resolutions and goals this year was to be more as more positive and less negative so I am really trying. I honestly do believe most things are mental and how you decide to handle things; so I thought to myself, "Rebecca, stop! It's seriously not that bad; stop being a negative Nancy and nobody cares about your outfit or hair etc (what you look like). It is so dumb to stress over those things. Whats bugging you the most and how can it be fixed quickly before work?"
After those couple deep breathes, that's when I realized what would make me feel better was to stop being lazy and take 10-15 minutes max to simply curl my hair. So small, but it really made me feel so much better. I am not very good at fixing my hair in cute fun ways; therefore, I don't do much with my hair during the work week because of this and I am also lazy and usually running late. Seriously, usually I just put it in a low ponytail and go. Well, along with my resolution of being more positive, I also made a resolution to make more effort with my hair each day as part of trying to be more polished/put together which makes me feel better overall = better mood usually. This also goes along with planning ahead and being more organized. I am forever a work in progress and that's okay. :) #loveyourself
So that's what I did. I took 10 minutes, if that, and curled my hair. And as dumb as it may sound to some people it completely changed my mood. I just felt so much better. We all have our things, and my hair feeling blah is mine I guess.
Brief side note: since Blah hair was my issue today I wanted to take a minute to share with you my FAVORITE hair tools that saved me this morning and nope I get nothing from promoting these tools. I wish I did! :) Anyways, so with this being said, I decided to try the BeachWaver rotating curling iron after I saw it on the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show prep. I can't tell you how much I LOVE this curling iron! Honestly the best, fastest and easiest hair tool I have ever used. I have the BeachWaver Pro 1 inch professional rotating curling iron specifically. Love love love! I also use their Pro Dry hairdryer and love this too. It is super lightweight and dries my hair quickly. Again, I have super thick, long hair and I am so terrible at using hair tools like the curling wands (really don't know how people use these because they take me forever and I burn myself even with the gloves) and some other curling irons. So if you are in the market for a new hair tool, I totally recommend any of their items because you will likely love them too.
Back to the main point of this post, while I know most people say don't sweat the small stuff or worry about the small things, I agree with this, however, sometimes I find it is the little things that can make a difference. With that, I totally agree that I shouldn't let things that are out of my control negatively impact my mental health/attitude; however, what I have found is that small little details within my control, like taking 10 minutes to curl my hair, can make a difference sometimes. I guess my point of this post is to remind myself and others that self care is so important and no matter what your little details are or small things are, they matter to you and that's okay. #selfcare
We all have our things and we all have those Blah days. It's okay and I think it's normal. Remember to take a few minutes for yourself and if you can tweak one small, but important to you, thing, try that and maybe it can help and make a difference. I know it does or did for me. As I have said before, I just need to get out of my own way and own head.
